Things I’ve learnt this year

This year is beginning to draw to a close and whilst it’s a bit early for the serious reflections and New Year’s Resolutions, I do feel like this has been one heck of a year for me. I’ve learnt a lot. I’ve tried to sum up some of it in a vague list form… it was numbered before but that felt too formulaic. I know all of you will have learnt a lot this year, but I hope this is somewhat encouraging and maybe speaks to you in one way or another. As always, it is a testimony to the goodness of God. I’m thankful for this life He has given me.

-God is extravagantly generous. Whatever your expectations are, He will exceed them. ‘More than we could ever ask or imagine’ Ephesians 3:20.

-Your individual dreams and passions have a place in this world. Cherish those dreams, don’t starve them just because they look different to everyone else’s.

-There’s more than one place you can call home, and that is ok but sometimes it is also hard.

-Do not underestimate people or allow prejudgements to blind you. Be open to their perspective, learn from them, let them surprise you.

-Appreciate everything as whole-heartedly as you can. Don’t take stuff for granted, life is a gift.

-Uncertainty is scary and complicated but it can also be exciting. And it’s normal.

-Having friends from all over the world is a blessing beyond description and a wonderful gift from God.

-Fear is not a good excuse for living a mediocre life, or for being mediocre when God created you to excel. If you have the courage to do it afraid, the reward is more than worth the risk. God won’t abandon you in the deep end, but you will never learn to swim if you don’t venture out there.

-Be OK with saying ‘no’ without needing to justify yourself.

-If it’s not worth it, let it go. If it is, fight for it.

-Who you are is more important than what you do.

-God’s grace is so vast and infinite. I will fail Him a thousand times, I will wander off track and take His love for granted, but He welcomes me back every time. He is the most faithful friend, the most loving Father, the most capable fighter. Nothing feels better than being a daughter of the King.

So there you are, some things I’ve grasped and understood on a deeper level this year. Thanks for sticking with me, I know I’ve hardly written in recent months.

God bless you.
